From the moment we went back into the bar to grab out things, I could tell Tam and Penny knew exactly what we had been up to. Thankfully, they didn’t say a word to Wren, but I knew from the gleam in their eyes, they’d be talking about this for months.

A quick stop at the store to get supplies, and we were back at the house.

Parking in front of my house, I cut the engine and turned to her. “Stay here.”

Condoms in my back pocket, I walked around the back of the truck, opening the door for her but blocking her from getting down. Turning her to face me, her legs on either side of me, she was at my height in her seat. I reached forward, resting my hand on her cheek. “I know we went a little overboard at the bar, but I want to make sure you’re comfortable staying over tonight.”

“I know.” Her response was soft and almost sad. “That’s why I want to.”

“Should we go inside?” I offered my hand to help her down, and she accepted it.

“I want to go inside, but I have to run over to the house for something. It won’t take more than a minute. I’ll be right behind you.”

I shook my head. “I’ll go with you.”

Following her to the porch, she opened the door, grabbed a bag from inside, and then turned to me. “I told you one minute.”

Grabbing her bag from her hand, I slung it over my shoulder. “Is this an overnight bag? Did you pack an overnight bag for me?”

The color of her cheeks was lovely as she glanced over at me. “It’s just a few little things, no big deal.”

Smirking, I closed the door behind her, setting the alarm. “Seems like you wanted me to win this bet.”

With her hands on her hips, she narrowed her eyes. “The night’s not over. I can still decide I want those crepes by myself.”

Reaching out, I took her hand, leading her to the steps. From the bottom, we were eye to eye. “You’re right, but that leaves a few hours to make sure this is the best night you’ve ever had.”

Her response was to lean forward, taking my mouth with hers in a scorching kiss. My hands wove into her hair as I held her to me. Her legs wrapped around my waist, and through the layers of our winter wear, I could feel the heat of her. Her arm laced around my neck, holding me tight. With a grip on her ass, I walked us across the street and up my front porch.

Breaking the kiss for only a moment to open my front door, her grip on me never wavered. The bag fell from my shoulder, then her purse. A swift kick to the door to slam it shut behind us. I walked across the living room to the bottom of the stairs to my loft bedroom.

I barely registered the clicks of Maizie running around at our feet. Setting her down on the steps above me, I took her face in my hands.
